  1. Primary function of the Blackfoot-Clearwater WMA is to provide elk and deer winter range. Camping is permitted for a maximum of 16 days. Grizzly bears occupy the Blackfoot Clearwater so food storage orders must be followed. Permits are also required for use by groups of more than 15 people, for any commercial activity, and for restricted trapping opportunities.

NOTICE FOR ANTLER HUNTERS: This WMA is a popular destination for antler hunters when it opens for the season annually at noon on May 15. Due to human safety concerns with congestion and pedestrian traffic along Highway 83 near the WMA’s west entrance, opening day antler hunters wanting to enter by vehicle at noon should register online from April 1-19 and will use the WMA’s east entrance. Registration is unlimited, and horse/bike/walk-in traffic does not need to register. Info is available now at fwp.mt.gov (follow links on the main page). Contact Vivaca Crowser at 406-542-5518 or vcrowser@mt.gov for more details.
