Blackfoot-Clearwater Wildlife Management Area
- Primary function of the Blackfoot-Clearwater WMA is to provide elk and deer winter range. Camping is permitted for a maximum of 16 days. Grizzly bears occupy the Blackfoot Clearwater so food storage orders must be followed. Permits are also required for use by groups of more than 15 people, for any commercial activity, and for restricted trapping opportunities.
NOTICE FOR ANTLER HUNTERS: This WMA is a popular destination for antler hunters when it opens for the season annually at noon on May 15. Beginning in 2024, due to human safety concerns with the growing congestion and pedestrian traffic along Highway 83, opening day antler hunters will need to access the area following a different process. Those planning to access the WMA by vehicle should register at fwp.mt.gov (follow links on the main page) beginning Monday, April 1 (noon) through Friday, April 19 (midnight), 2024.
