Special Notices & Closures

  1. Advisory Montana Fish Wildlife & Parks is advising floaters, hikers and other visitors to Sluice Boxes State Park of new rock obstacles in Belt Creek and obstructions to the hiking trail adjacent to the creek. A recent rockslide resulted in numerous boulders deposited in the creek and also across parts of the trail. The new boulders in the creek are located about one-half mile downstream of Logging Creek Bridge on Belt Creek. Floaters should use extra caution and scout the affected areas in advance. The affected area of the trail is less than 100 feet in length and will require hikers to scramble over large boulders to navigate across that section of the trail. The rockslides occurred over the winter, likely during earthquakes centered near Great Falls in January.
