Tampico Ranch CE Wildlife Conservation Easement

Tampico Ranch CE
White-tailed deer and pheasants are present year-round and archery and rifle seasons exist. Hunting opportunities also exist for ducks and geese that are abundant spring through fall. Furbearers such as beaver, muskrat, and mink are present year-round.
  1. The Tampico Ranch property was the first irrigated farm on the Milk River and consists of 4,000 acres of cottonwood-dominated bottomland. Through the management plan, approximately 350 acres of agricultural fields will be seeded into dense nesting cover for pheasants, waterfowl, and other upland-nesting birds. In addition, a rest-rotation grazing plan provides high-quality winter habitat for wildlife by excluding cattle from fields planted for nesting cover. Haying is allowed on the ungrazed fields after July 15 when upland birds and waterfowl have finished nesting. Further, waterfowl habitat is maximized by maintaining water levels in three cut-off oxbows, located along the Milk River.
