Where to Fish Twin Lake, Upper


Upper Twin Lake is found in the Rattlesnake Creek Drainage of the East Pioneer Mountains. The shoreline is composed mostly of boulders with surrounding forested areas. Upper Twin Lake does not have an inlet but fish can be found in the outlet. Finding a dry spot around the lake can be tough especially in early Summer.

Elevation: 8990.48 ft
Directions: Exit I-15 at Birch Creek and head West on Birch Creek Road. Turn off on USFS Road 7400 and follow to the Minneopa Trailhead. Head north on trail 1076 from the Minneopa Trailhead. Take the trail across the outlet of Tent lake to the south of the lake (Forest Service maps show the trail on the north side of Tent Lake) and follow trail to Lower Twin Lake. Head around north side of Lower Twin lake and follow inlet to Upper Twin Lake.
Status of the Fishery: Abundant population of self-sustaining Westslope Cutthroat x Rainbow Trout hybrids. Sampling in 2018 showed an average size of 10.5 inches with some reaching 15 inches.

Notes: Finding good shore fishing spots can be tough at Upper Twin Lake and a float tube would help fishing efforts. Insect life was low in late Spring so Summer fishing trips may be a better option.
