Twin Lake, Lower


Lower Twin Lake is found in the Rattlesnake Creek Drainage in the East Pioneer Mountains. The lake is very shallow but does have a well defined inlet and outlet that contain fish. The well defined trail results in moderate human traffic.

Size: 3.1818 acres
Elevation: 8908.48 ft
Directions: Exit I-15 at Birch Creek and head West on Birch Creek Road. Turn off on USFS Road 7400 and follow to the Minneopa Trailhead. Head north from the Minneopa Trailhead on trail 1076. Take the trail across the outlet of Tent lake to the south of the lake (Forest Service maps show the trail on the north side of Tent Lake) and follow trail to Lower Twin Lake.
Status of the Fishery: Lower Twin Lake currently has a self-sustaining population of Westslope Cutthroat x Rainbow trout hybrids. Fish averaged around 10 inches with the largest close to 13 inches in 2018.

Notes: Good shore and wading opportunities at Lower Twin lake and its outlet. Fish may travel out of lake during tough conditions due to the shallowness of the lake. Insect life was low in late Spring so fishing efforts may be better directed towards Summer.
