Where to Fish Sawtooth Lake


Sawtooth Lake is a beautiful lake located in the Clark Creek Drainage. It is found in the East Pioneer Mountains. This lake is named after the sawtooth ridge that runs to the northeast of the lake. Sawtooth Lake is famous for a plane wreckage that occurred in the 1960s and parts of the plane can still be found on the east shore. This lake has a little sign of human impact and traffic can be moderate in the Summer.

Size: 20.419 acres
Elevation: 8593.6 ft
Directions: From Hwy 278, turn North onto the Pioneer Scenic Byway. Turn East off the Byway onto Clark Creek Road. Turn off Clark Creek Road onto USFS Rd. 7441 which arrives at the trailhead for Trail 1195. Trail 1195 goes directly to the lake.
Status of the Fishery: Self-sustaining population of small sized brook trout. Some golden trout have been sampled in the past. In the future, this lake may be treated and stocked with only golden trout.

Notes: The Brook Trout in Sawtooth Lake are not very large however they can be easily taken with flies around the shore. A float tube would aid in casting due to the densely forest shoreline.
